Title: "The Pallaqueras"

Description: In Peru over 15,000 women work as Pallaqueras - collecting, sorting and searching for gold in discarded rocks at mine sites. It is a risky job, but for many it can be an important source of income in regions where there are few alternatives. This project documented the Pallaqueras working at a mine producing certified Fairtrade gold, which has received support from Solidaridad Network to improve its environmental, social and safety standards (read more).
